The SAHO Bargaining Committee met with the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) on April 28, 29, 30 and May 1, 2026.

This was a highly productive session, with both parties clearly focused on constructive dialogue and advancing the important work of this round of bargaining. Agreement was reached on provisions within Article 8 – Overtime, Article 11 – Escort Duty, Article 17 – Leaves of Absence, Article 18 – Sick Leave, Article 22 – Probationary and Trial Period, Article 27 – Vacancies, Promotions or Transfers, and Article 38 – Job Share.

In addition to these agreements, the parties engaged in collaborative and substantive discussions on a range of issues, including staffing, job classification, leaves, nursing practice, and committee structures. These conversations have strengthened mutual understanding, clarified priorities, and narrowed areas of difference on several key matters.

Many of the issues under discussion are complex and far-reaching, requiring thorough consideration and careful evaluation. SAHO's Bargaining Committee remains encouraged by the progress being made and is confident that, through ongoing collaboration and a shared commitment to practical solutions, the parties can achieve outcomes that support both employees and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

This round of bargaining provides a valuable opportunity to modernize provisions that reflect the realities of today's healthcare system. Discussions have focused on initiatives that strengthen patient care across Saskatchewan, including greater provincial alignment, expanded full-time employment opportunities, enhanced support for provincial programs, and the use of technology to improve access to services.

As the healthcare system continues to change, both parties recognize the importance of supporting safe workplaces, responsive care environments, and a committed nursing workforce. These shared priorities remain central to building a strong, sustainable healthcare system for the future.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume on May 20, 21 and 22, 2026.
